Mystery Snails

Imported illegally for the aquarium trade many years ago, mystery snails (Pomacia species) may pose a grave threat to the Australian environment.

At this point in time they are only found in aquaria, not in the wild, but pest experts fear they will escape into tropical wetlands one day, and become voracious herbivores, as closely related golden apple snails have done in Asia.
