Invasive Species Forum

Engaging the Environment Movement in the "War on Weeds"

Key Note Speaker Tim Low, author of Feral Future and New Nature

This Forum created a space where people from the environmental movement could engage with each other on the issue of invasive species. This was an opportunity to build support across the environmental movement, develop strategies, and build our collective capacity to take action.

Forum Overview
Even though the impacts are immense and ongoing, invasive species aren't being tackled seriously. An alarming number of invasive species are still coming in, staying, and spreading in Australia.

Government reports concede that Australia is failing to address the threat properly. New pests keep entering the country, and entrenched pests keep multiplying.

We need much more action on invasive species, by government and the community. Thus, we need more awareness, more media focus, and more attention by politicians and the bureaucracy.

Many environmental NGOs and Landcare groups already tackle invasive species in their programs. But clearly we need to do more.

This Forum presents the opportunity to compare our strategies, and consider how we might incorporate further actions against invasive species in our programs.
